Our History

The United Methodist Church in Madison was founded in 1843, and we continue a long tradition of worship, fellowship and service.  Our ministries are enhanced by the enthusiasm of new members, and the continuing dedication of long-time members.  We share an abiding sense of community and seek to be people of God.  We are blessed with a staff who are individually gifted yet mutually supportive.

The United Methodist Church comes out of the Church of England.  The Methodist movement began through the preaching of John Wesley and the hymns of Charles Wesley.  Through small group meetings and passion for mission, justice and closer walk with God and one another, the Methodist movement became a church in Baltimore at Christmas 1784.  For over 200 years Methodists have sought to live as disciples, following the teachings of the Bible and the tradition of the Church, with a balance of human reason, and the guidance of experience.
