Lead Pastor

Mark (he/him) has served churches in Washington, DC, Chicago, IL, Jersey City and Hoboken, NJ. During his ministry he has become a firm believer that church is something you do, questions about faith and God are good, and community can be built anywhere.

Mark loves photography, biking, traveling with his wife Meredith, rock climbing with his daughter Elise, and laughing with his daughter Nora. He has two degrees from Boston University, a Bachelor’s in Hospitality Administration and a Master of Divinity.

Lisa Carballo

Office Administrator

Lisa (she/her) is a lifelong Methodist and dedicated member of UMC Madison, where she adds a touch of Southern charm. Originally from Mississippi, she holds a BFA in Theater from the University of Southern Mississippi and has had a dynamic career in theater across New Orleans, New York, and on tour. Lisa and her husband Rob have raised their twins at UMC Madison. She enjoys gardening, music, baking, delicious treats, and curling up with a good book

Juyoun Seo

Student Pastoral Intern

Juyoun's journey weaves together education, faith, and family. She studied business administration and Christian welfare and counseling in Korea and served military churches with her husband Shinyoung Kim, a military chaplain. In 2021, she moved to the U.S. to support his doctorate pursuit. Juyoun is now pursuing an M.Div at Drew Theological School. The couple with their children Seoyeon and Hayeon—now call the Drew campus home. Before joining UMC Madison, she contributed to the Nursery and Kindergarten ministries at Arcola Korean UMC.

Outside of her ministry, she delights in exploring art galleries, museums, and historical sites, always eager to discover new inspirations.

Cody Beckett

Student Pastoral Intern

Cody (she/her) hails from Cody, Wyoming, just a short 52 miles from the stunning Yellowstone National Park.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Hendrix College in 2023, focusing on Christianity.

Currently, Cody is pursuing an M.Div at Drew Theological School, specializing in United Methodist Ministry. She is also a certified candidate for ministry on the elder track in the Greater New Jersey Conference. Cody is thrilled to serve at UMC Madison, where she looks forward to deepening her faith, building relationships, and growing in her calling to serve God. In her free time, she loves reading, baking, creative writing, photography, and hiking.

Marcel Okito

Student Pastoral Intern

Marcel (he/him) hails from Kinshasa, DR Congo, where he was raised in the United Methodist tradition. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management from Africa University in Zimbabwe and is now pursuing a M.Div in United Methodist Ministry at Drew.

Marcel feels a strong sense of belonging in this church community, cherishing his connections with God, friends, and others. His mission is to share and celebrate the good news of Jesus Christ, believing that God is the heart of all missions and the source of universal hope for everyone.

We appreciate all that Marlice and Boris do to maintain our historic church and grounds! They have been with the church since 1989.  They have two grown children and are very much part of our church community.  We are very blessed to have them.
